Defective Goods and Products

If you or your children have suffered an illness or injury because of defective goods or products you may be able to claim compensation.

There are a number of laws in place to protect consumers and set safety standards when you purchase goods or products. Under The Consumer Protection Act 1987 and The Sale of Goods Act 1979 you could sue the manufacturer, importer and/or supplier for compensation of the defective goods or products, if you can show that the goods were faulty and caused you an injury.

Some examples of defective goods or products claim scenarios include:-

  • suffering a bad reaction to cosmetics or medication;
  • a toy with sharp or protruding edges which causes an injury;
  • faulty assembly or usage instructions supplied with your product;
  • suffering food poisoning after dining at a restaurant;
  • a hairdryer catching fire and burning you.

The amount that you can claim depends upon your injuries. You will also be able to claim for any financial losses that you have incurred as a result of the accident. These would include loss of earnings, medication expenses, damaged clothing and medical treatment fees.
